Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service received a spike in flood related calls over the past 24 hours (at 2pm today). South Carmarthenshire has been mostly affected by localised flooding, closely followed by the Swansea area.

The service’s water first responder team successfully rescued a Labrador yesterday who had accidently fallen into a fast flowing river near to Llangennech.

The Officer in command of the incident Geraint Thomas said:

“Thankfully, we were able to recover the dog from the river bank using reach poles and wading gear. We urge those who walk dogs to take great care near to riverbanks and waterways. With the rain that we have had over the past few days, water is fast flowing and very dangerous. We were able to help on this occasion but such incident could easily end in tragedy”.
